Israel recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on 25th of December 1991. On 7th of April 1992, diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Israel were established.
The Embassy of the State of Israel in Azerbaijan was established in August 1993. The current Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan George Deek has presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on 25th of December, 2019.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Israel was opened on 1st of March 2023. The official opening of the Embassy took place on 29th of March 2023. The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Israel Mukhtar Mammadov presented his credentials to the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog on 26th of March 2023.
The relations between Azerbaijan and Israel can be defined as close partnership and strategic. Frequent phone calls and meetings of the heads of states, foreign ministers and other high-ranking officials, including reciprocal visits are taking place regularly. A Joint Commission and other various governmental working groups are established between Azerbaijan and Israel.
Political consultations, as well as Strategic Dialogue are regularly conducted between the ministries of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan and Israel. The latest round of Political Consultations took place on 8th of May, 2024, while the last round of Strategic Dialogue took place on 16th of January 2023 in Azerbaijan;
There is Azerbaijan-Israel Working Group in Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan (chaired by Anatoliy Rafailov) and a Friendship group in Knesset (chaired by Vladimir Beliak);
